Francesca Llopis

Drums, Desire....

Francesca Llopis

Artist, born and living in Barcelona.  Since 1981 she has made paintings and spatial constructions in galleries and museums throughout Spain and Europe. In 2002 she presented her first video installation called “Two Rooms with a View”, and has made more that 15 video compositions.  Her imagery began with architecture as a representation of urban culture, very close to the neo-expressionism of the ‘80’s, and she has used the labyrinth as a metaphor for the city, giving pass to another significant space: the cavity or hole.  This no-place is identified as the artist’s own identity.  Her use of space from an artificial perspective evolves toward a new image: nature, where forest, fog and water are the main characters of her paintings.  Llopis is especially interested in positioning the spectator before and within an imaginary landscape, caught in something like a spider’s web.
